The Ondo State Police Command has charged a 60 year old man, Sunday Etim, before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a 15 year old girl whose identity has been withheld for security reasons.
The case was brought forward by officers from the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the Ondo Police Command. According to the prosecution led by Supol Martins Olowofeso, the alleged incident happened in September 2025 at around 6:00 am on Emiloro Street in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Olowofeso told the court that the defendant unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent, an act that violates Section 3 (A&B) of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law of Ondo State, 2021. The prosecutor emphasized the gravity of the offence and requested that the suspect be remanded in a correctional facility while awaiting the Director of Public Prosecutions’ legal advice.
The defence counsel, Kehinde Osadugba, appealed to the court for a short adjournment to enable his client to properly respond to the prosecution’s application.

Magistrate Taiwo Lebi, after listening to both parties, adjourned the case until October 23, 2025, for the hearing of the remand application. The defendant’s plea was not taken.
