Captain Binuga, who hails from Taraba State, belongs to regular course 64 and was serving with the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Forces (DHQ SOF) in Bida, Niger State.

According to top security officials, both officers are believed to have left Nigeria shortly before the second wave of arrests began.

More Arrests Underway

The investigation, which began in the first week of October, has already led to the detention of over 30 officers. Sources say 16 of them were earlier picked up for questioning, and several have made “useful statements” to interrogators.

While a few of the detained officers have remained silent, many others are reportedly cooperating with investigators.

Contrary to widespread speculation, the alleged coup was not planned for October 1, as initial arrests only commenced days later.

DHQ Maintains Silence

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has not confirmed any coup attempt publicly. However, it described the ongoing probe of the 16 officers as a routine internal process to ensure discipline and professionalism within the military ranks.
