Their letters of defection were read on the floor of the House on Tuesday by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who said the lawmakers attributed their decision to persistent divisions and unresolved political crises within the PDP.

According to the defectors, the internal wrangling in the opposition party had made it difficult for them to effectively pursue their political goals and represent their constituents.

They declared their resolve to align with the APC and support the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

With the latest development, the PDP’s representation in the Rivers State caucus of the House of Representatives has dropped from 12 members to just two.

The remaining PDP lawmakers from the state are the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu.

The defection follows a similar move last week when three Rivers PDP lawmakers—Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead—also joined the APC.
