At least seven people were killed after terrorists stormed Bong village in Plateau State late Friday night, carrying out a house-to-house attack that left several residents injured and others still missing.

The attack occurred in Bong village, located in Doemak District of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, when armed assailants invaded the community while residents were asleep.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers moved from house to house, firing sporadically and targeting defenceless villagers, including women, children, and the elderly.

A resident of the community, Justin Mari, told SaharaReporters that the death toll could rise, as some villagers have not been accounted for.

“As I speak with you, I can confirm that more than seven persons have been killed. Many others sustained injuries, and some people are still missing,” Mari said.

The incident was confirmed by Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, Director of Press and Publicity to the Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Council, Christopher Audu Manship.

Sylvanus said while the exact number of fatalities is still being verified, the council chairman has strongly condemned the attack and is working with security agencies to track down those responsible.

“The council is doing everything possible to ensure that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are brought to book,” he said.

He added that residents would be kept informed as security operations and investigations continue.

The latest incident comes despite recent claims by the military that several planned attacks in Plateau State had been foiled by troops of the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division under Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace.

Security experts say the attack further highlights the growing insecurity in rural Plateau communities, where violent assaults have become increasingly frequent.
