Anambra Police Reveal Identity of Notorious Violent Masquerade in Awgbu

The Anambra State Police Command has revealed the identity of the man inside the masquerade linked to the violent incident that disrupted peace in Awgbu community, sparking public outrage and concern over safety during cultural activities.

The Anambra State Police Command has identified Ifesinachi Ezeolu, a 28-year-old man, as the individual who was inside the masquerade involved in the recent violent incident in Awgbu community, Anambra State.

The incident, which occurred during a masquerade outing, allegedly involved assaults, intimidation, and harassment of residents, leading to widespread public concern and calls for police action.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command respects the cultural and traditional practices of communities across the state but warned that such traditions must not be abused.

“No cultural activity should be used as a cover to harass, assault, intimidate or violate the fundamental human rights of citizens,” Ikenga stated.

He explained that masquerade outings, like all public gatherings, must be conducted peacefully and within the limits of the law, adding that the police would not tolerate any activity capable of causing fear, injury, or public disorder.

The statement also confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals connected to the incident.

Reacting to the situation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents of Awgbu and surrounding communities of their safety.

“The Command will continue to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to promote peaceful cultural expressions while ensuring the protection of lives and property,” Orutugu said.

The police urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement as efforts continue to ensure justice and prevent a repeat of such incidents.
