The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned the killing of seven persons at a mining site in Wat, Kuru District of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the incident as unacceptable and tragic.

Holding the government responsible, the party noted that repeated violent attacks have continued to undermine public confidence and threaten democratic stability in the state, popularly known as the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.

The opposition party cited Section 14(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

Referencing the findings of a 2025 fact-finding committee established by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the PDP added that the assailants were reportedly from neighbouring states.

The party called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the killings, the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible, and the implementation of a clear and effective security strategy to address the root causes of violence.

According to the PDP, mere condemnation without concrete action is no longer acceptable.

The party also expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and urged national and international stakeholders to closely monitor the security and human rights situation in Plateau State.
