A 40-year-old Ondo woman, Nafisat Lateef, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy, following a heated disagreement with the child’s mother in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Nafisat Lateef, 40, for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant at Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State.

According to police findings, the incident followed an argument between Lateef and the child’s mother, Rofiat, who is her tenant. Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly gave the child, identified as Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., shortly after the disagreement between both women.

Confirming the development, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the child became ill moments after ingesting the substance.

“Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention. Police detectives, during a swift and intelligence-led operation, arrested the suspect,” Jimoh stated.

The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing, assuring the public that the suspect will be charged to court after the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.
