Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Barinada Mpigi, is dead. He was 64.
The lawmaker, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, died on Thursday, according to a source who confirmed the development.

Born on June 23, 1961, Mpigi had a long legislative career. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2011 and secured a second term in 2016.

In 2019, he was elected into the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South-East.
During the Ninth Assembly, Mpigi chaired a joint Senate committee mandated to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
His death marks the end of a political career that spanned over a decade in Nigeria’s National Assembly.
