An old video of Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo threatening Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has resurfaced online, sparking widespread concern and outrage. The video, recorded on July 18, 2025, at a political event in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, shows Okpebholo warning Obi against visiting Edo State without prior notice.
In the video, Okpebholo said, “The man who says he doesn’t have a problem, I’m sending a message to him, there’s a new sheriff in town. He cannot come to Edo State without telling me because his security will not be guaranteed. Whatever happens to him in Edo State, he will take it. I am serious about this.”

The video resurfaced on Tuesday, following reports of an alleged assassination attempt on Obi and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State. According to eyewitnesses, suspected gunmen attacked Obi’s motorcade, destroying windscreens and body parts with bullets.
