Counsel to the family, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), told the court that the parents believe the child’s death was unnatural and occurred during medical treatment, alleging gross medical negligence and improper administration of drugs.

The Lagos State Government, represented by the Attorney-General’s office, supported the request for an inquest, noting that the state also considers itself affected by the incident.

The child reportedly died on January 7, 2026, after receiving treatment at Atlantis Hospital and undergoing procedures at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital in Lagos.

The coroner directed all parties to file witness statements ahead of the next hearing, where proceedings are expected to formally begin.
