The University of Lagos has reinstated its Students’ Union Government (SUG) after a nine-year suspension, electing new leaders for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The election, coordinated by the Directorate of Student Affairs under Dean Professor Johnson Agunsoye, took place at the Common Room of Moremi Hall, producing Bolaji Akinpelu of the Faculty of Arts as President and Daniel Solomon of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics as General Secretary.

The move follows a promise by Vice-Chancellor Folasade Ogunsola to restore student representation, aimed at strengthening leadership development, giving students a platform for expression, and preparing them for solution-driven roles.
The SUG had been dissolved in April 2016 due to student unrest and protests that disrupted academic activities, and the nine-year suspension was intended to restore order on campus.
