“I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities,” he said.
The US leader stated that, based on the outcome of the talks, he had directed a five-day suspension of previously threatened strikes targeting Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure, pending further negotiations.
“Based on the tenor and tone of these… conversations. I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes… for a five day period,” Trump added.
The decision follows earlier threats by Trump to “obliterate” Iran’s power facilities if Tehran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
The pause in military action comes amid growing global concern over the potential economic impact of an escalation in the US-Israeli conflict with Iran, particularly on oil prices and inflation.
