Nigerian music stars Wizkid and Ayra Starr were among the biggest winners at the 2026 MOBO Awards held in Manchester, United Kingdom, as Afrobeats continued to dominate the global music scene.
At the prestigious 2026 MOBO Awards, Wizkid once again proved his influence in global music after winning the Best African Music Act category.

The award placed him ahead of several other Nigerian music heavyweights, including Davido, Rema, Shallipopi, Tiwa Savage, and Adekunle Gold, who were also nominated in the same category.
With this victory, Wizkid has now won the Best African Music Act four times, bringing his total number of MOBO Awards to six, making him the most awarded African artiste in the history of the awards.
Another major highlight of the night was Ayra Starr, who successfully defended her title as Best International Act.
The fast-rising Afrobeats star beat global music stars such as Cardi B, Gunna, and Kehlani to take home the award for the second consecutive year.
Nigerian producer P2J also made the country proud by winning the Best Producer category. He emerged victorious ahead of other nominees including Jae5, Sammy Soso, Inflo, Miles Clinton James, and Zach Nahome.
Aside from the winners, several other celebrities of Nigerian descent also earned nominations at the event.
Nigerian-born singer Odeal, who previously won Best Newcomer and Best R&B/Soul Act in 2025, received nominations for Best Male Act and Best R&B/Soul Act at the 2026 ceremony.
In the film and television category, actors of African heritage such as Wunmi Mosaku, Damson Idris, Dayo Koleosho, and Cynthia Erivo were nominated for Best Performance in a TV Show/Film.
The MOBO Awards (Music of Black Origin Awards) is an annual ceremony held in the United Kingdom to celebrate outstanding achievements in Black music.
The awards recognize talents across several genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Gospel, and African music, while also honouring influential personalities in film, media, and entertainment.
