The request by the Senator Abdullahi Adamu-led All Progressives Congress, APC, National Reconciliation Committee for a seven-day extension of its mandate has alarmed some party stakeholders, who see it as a ploy to postpone the party’s February 26 national convention.

On Monday, the Adamu committee submitted an interim report to the Governor. Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC, led by Mai Mala Buni, but with a request for an additional seven days to complete its assignment. ,

“We got a firm date of February 26th right after the New Year. Now, given the nature of reconciliation in a country like Nigeria, gathering and compiling all petitions at once was not easy.

“We received some petitions at a time when the schedule we had devised could not accommodate them.”

As a result, we extended the deadline until January 31st (approximately a week) in the hope that those who missed the opportunity to have their petitions heard will receive additional notifications to submit petitions.

We believe that some issues will still be addressed in the Interim Report. As we speak, some of them (petitioners) are milling around the Secretariat. And we believe that in the spirit of APC, they should be given a fair hearing.

We are confident that all of our efforts will be fruitful in the end. We are requesting seven days from today to receive those who have yet to be heard then make a final report submission,” Adamu had requested.

The CECPC has not set a date to meet and decide whether to grant the request for an extension, but a top party official stated that the party leadership must receive the final report, deliberate on it, and adopt it before proceeding with the convention.

“Ideally, you cannot proceed with the national convention without first reviewing all of the reports.” The Adamu committee has asked for more time.

That request must be met with and approved by the CECPC. That will require some time. “The source speculated that some people may want to capitalize on that request to ensure the postponement of the convention.

The CECPC received the interim report of its National Reconciliation Committee on January 31, and according to the convention timetable, it is to consider and adopt state congress reports on February 2.

According to a timetable signed by the CECPC’s National Secretary, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, the party’s leadership will inaugurate state executives on February 3, while sales of forms to all aspirants vying for national offices will begin on February 14.

However, there are concerns that the reconciliation committee’s request could also jeopardize the planned inauguration of state party executives, given that many of the states are still in crisis.

“Because most of the issues have not been resolved, the inauguration of state executives may result in even more crisis.”
