The Northern Emancipation Network (NEN) has criticized the Patriotic Front of Nigeria (PFN) for calling on the National Assembly to investigate Emefiele.

In a statement issued by Tope Badmus, the PFN claimed that Emefiele was considering running for President and advised him to resign his position.

The Group also claimed that he used CBN intervention funds to benefit his political associates and his presidential bid in 2023.

However, in a sharp and prompt response, NEN Secretary-General Suleiman Abbah described PFN as an obscure, fringe group commissioned by politicians with a dubious agenda to allegedly tarnish the CBN Governor’s reputation.

“We recall PFN gaining embarrassment when it shamelessly made similar baseless allegations against NIRSAL, which they blatantly fail to substantiate.”

“This, too, is a sponsored attempt to divert Mr. Emefiele’s attention away from his dedicated service to the country through the diligent execution of meaningful intervention programs he personally initiated.”

“With so many media privileges available in a democracy, it is not uncommon for…the PFN to seize the opportunity to do unpopular things.”

“Ignorant and envious groups like this one can be tolerated if they try to downplay the significance of Mr. Emefiele’s successes in national economic turnaround, particularly seeing the economy through two recessions in two years, which is unprecedented globally,” NEN said.

“President Buhari’s task is to gather Nigerians to advise him and carry out his vision.”

He will require people to convey his concerns and compassion; to reach out to and comfort millions of people suffering in a recessionary economy, and to combine his personal integrity with competence and commitment.”

NEN, on the other hand, stated that “discerning Nigerians are not mistaken when they see President Buhari’s image and vision being adequately served by the quality and competence of people like Emefiele, who have been assembled to work with him and see the nation through this difficult period.”

“With Emefiele’s professional intervention and selfless commitment, President Buhari’s administration has done extremely well in managing the recession, fighting corruption within the law, and rebuilding a nation united around the values of justice and honest enterprise,” NEN said.
