Tragedy as Passengers Burn to Death in Bayelsa Road Accident | Daily Report Nigeria

At least 12 passengers were burnt to death in a fatal road accident along the Tombia-Amassoma road in Yenagoa local Government Council Area of Bayelsa State.

Sources say that nine persons reportedly burnt to ashes on the spot, as an explosion immediately followed the collision. Another four passengers were later confirmed dead on arrival at the Niger Delta Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri.

The collision reportedly involved a 14-seater bus with passengers and a tanker truck alleged to be supplying diesel to a construction location within the Ammassoma area.

Witnesses narrated that the accident occurred at about 8.45pm on Wednesday evening.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also confirmed the accident, stating that the passengers were indeed burnt beyond recognition levels.

The officials explained that when they arrived at the scene of the accident at about 10pm on Wednesday, there was nothing they could do to save the day.

According to the FRSC officials, said, preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was as a result of overspeeding by the driver of the diesel truck.

They also stated that the truck driver allegedly removed the plate number of his truck and escaped before they arrived the scene.

On his part, the Spokesperson pf the Bayelsa State Police Command, Asinim Butswat, while confirming the incident, stated that the scene was gory and horrible yo behold.
