The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has died at age 83.
He died on Friday night at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Lamidi Adeyemi succeeded Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II in 1970.

He ruled for 52 years before his demise, making him the longest-reigning Alaafin.
The remains of the Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo town in the early hours of (today) Saturday April 23, and traditional burial rites have begun.
The first-class Nigerian monarch is survived by about 13 wives and many children.
