The Ministry of women affairs and Child Rights Implementation Committee of Delta state as reunited a 15-year-old girl from Akwa-Ibom State, who was trafficked to Delta State for prostitution with her family.

The young girl, Favour Enefiokwho, who hails from Ikot-Ekpene Local Government Area was taken back to Akwa-Ibom State by a staff of the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs under the Child Protection Unit via Akwa-Ibom State Transport Company from Asaba, on Monday, July 26, 2020.

It was gathered that Favour was discovered in an uncompleted building by landlords mounting security surveillance within the Midwifery area of Okpanam in the Asaba Capital Territory by 1.00am on April 9 2020.

She informed the landlords of how she was beaten and thrown out of the house by her madam for refusing to engage in prostitution with men she was bringing to her.

One of the landlords who had the contact of one of the members of the Delta State Child Rights Implementation Committee hurriedly alerted the committee member as it was a case of child abuse.

It was later discovered by the committee members, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu Esq and Comrade Patrick Ochei that the girl was tricked from her parents to come live with a wealthy woman and school in Delta State.

Mrs Kevwe Agas, the Chairman of the Child’s Rights Implementation Committee and Permanent Secretary in the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, who was promptly briefed about the situation reached out to her Colleagues in Akwa-Ibom State and made efforts to return the girl to her people, but it wasn’t feasible due to the Covid-19 Lockdown.

Favour remained in the custody and care of the Child’s Rights Implementation Committee member, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu for three months until the final approval by the State Government for her return to Akwa-Ibom State.
