SERAP Sues Buhari, Salami, Two Others Over Failure To Provide Details Of Foreign Loans

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project anti-corruption group, SERAP, has sued President Muhammadu Buhari over his alleged failure to provide details of foreign loans his administration has taken so far.

SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oludare, disclosed that the group is praying the court issue a order to compel President Muhammadu Buhari, to publicly publish names of countries and bodies that have granted loans.

It also urged the court to compel the President to publish some specific loan repayment conditions, and to also tell Nigerians whether any public officers received or solicited for bribe in the negotiations for any of the loans.

Furthermore, to tell Nigerians if there was any audit to spending of the loans, so as to resolve any allegations of mismanagement and corruption.

President Muhammadu Buhari was sued alongside the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Salami; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; and Director-General of the Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha.

SERAP statement reads;

“Buhari must publish details of loans that have been obtained by the government since May 29, 2015, including the interest rate, the total amount of debts that have so far been incurred by this government, as well as details of the projects on which the loans have been spent.”
