NUOS Decry Poor State of Obotebe Secondary School, Demands Swift Intervention | Daily Report Nigeria

The National Union of Obotebe Students, NUOS, has lamented the poor state of infrastructural decay affecting the Obotebe Secondary School, Obotebe.

In a statement made available to Daily Report Nigeria on Saturday, the students decried how non-conducive the school environment has become for learning.

The lamentation followed the recent collapse of the oldest classroom block in the school on July 27, 2022.

In the statement signed by Tare James – President, Kingsley Ovie – Secretary and Akpoke Jeremiah – Publicity Secretary, the body called on the state government to come to their aide.

While giving thanks that no student was hurt during the collapse, the students also called on leaders of the community to salvage the plight of the students.

The statement titled ‘A COURTESY CALL TO ATTEND TO THE ISSUES AFFECTING OBOTEBE SECONDARY SCHOOL’, read;

On the 27th, of July 2022, our attention was drawn to the collapsed of the oldest secondary school building in Obotebe community.

“As a student body and the front-runner of all academic affairs of the community, we wish to take our stand on the critical issues affecting the management and the fallen building.

“Not too long we sent a delegation to visit the school authorities and management to verify and confirm that the entire school premises is in a critical situation that needs urgent rehabilitation.

“The fallen Secondary School building and the replies from authorities signify that the school has been long and presently facing a learning crisis that should be attended to without no limited time.

“Our findings reveal that the School was captured twice under a project to be carried out by state the government with detailed specification for renovation. But, nothing was done.

“Academically, the comfort that a student enjoys in the process of learning is a predictive variable that could determine weather a student will be able to consecrate and learn as he should.

“It is unfortunate that riverine the school has been neglected by our own brothers and leaders with no pity on their faces. The suffers different degrees of Lacks and is in need of intervention in:

1. RENOVATION OF ALL THE SEVEN (7) CLASSROOM BLOCK IN THE SCHOOL, INCLUDING THE FENCE.

2. SECURITY

3. CORPS MEMBERS

4. TEACHERS

5. TEACHER’S QUARTERS and LAB FACILITIES

“With pity and consent, the Student body of National Union Of Obotebe Students (NUOS) wish to call on the Delta State Government, public office holders to intervene and alleviate the situation with the Obotebe Secondary School.”
