-Condemns SPDC over Ill treatment of host communities

Youths of Odimodi community, Iduwini Kingdom, Burutu Local Government Area in Delta state have taken a solidarity step together with their Ogulagha counterparts in battling the Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.

Their solidarity was contained in a statement signed by the Odimodi Youth Movement President, Akin Disi and obtained by Daily Report Nigeria on Friday.

Comrade Disi while condemning the heavy marginalization meted against the Ogulagha and Odimodi people, expressed absolute disdain for the sacking of over 50 indigenous workers by the SPDC.

Disi maintained that the perpetual marginalization of host communities alike by the SPDC would no longer be tolerated and called for the immediate reinstatement of all indigenous workers affected by the downsizing.

“We received with great excitement the news of the recent protest by youths of Ogulagha community against the sack of indigenous workers and the gruesome marginalisation of members of host communities in employment by Shell Petroleum Development Company operating at Forcados terminal.

We congratulate Ogulagha youths and their president Comr Okilo Waterwei for saying a NO to injustice. We are in Solidarity with them and we join our voices to condemn in totality the actions of SPDC in arbitrarily laying off members of the host communities.

We equally frown at the imbalanced staff employment ratio and condemn it to be unacceptable, hence call for employment of host community youths as skilled and senior staffs of Shell.

We want to urge Shell in strong terms as a host community whose workers are affected by the current industrial madness to immediately reconsider their stand, recall the affected workers and employ our youths as Shell staffs to avoid further protests and a complete breakdown of law and order.”

Daily Report Nigeria earlier reported the ongoing heavy protest and shutdown of the Forcados Terminal by youths of Ogulagha community over the sacking of over 50 indigenous staff by the SPDC.
