The first match of the 2022 World Cup takes place at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday afternoon as hosts Qatar face off against Ecuador in Group A.

Qatar is one of the major underdogs in their group. The host nation has never been to a World Cup before but has had some quality results recently.

The Qataris won the Asian Cup in 2019. They finished third in the Arab Cup in 2021, falling to eventual winner Algeria in the semifinals before beating Egypt in penalties for third place.

South American powerhouse, Ecuador, will hopefully create a good impression. They will also have an opportunity to make a statement after an eight-year absence from the event.

Qatar vs Ecuador Prediction

On paper, the Ecuadorians look strong but the Qatari team will have to put up a convincing display to get away with a result.

The punters are tipped to go for under 3.5 goals for this match.
