The Delta state Polytechnic Ozoro has been shutdown by students as they protest against a ₦5,000 Covid-19 levy imposed on them by the management of the school upon resumption of academic activities.

This follows the recent order by the Delta State Government, directing tertiary institutions in the state to resume after months of closure due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Daily Report Nigeria can confirm that there is an ongoing massive protest in the school led by the Senate President of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Dio Oghale Emeka Rex.

In addressing newsmen, Comrade Dio maintains that the school will remain shut until the directive is reversed and withdrawn.

According to Comrade Dio, the students are not asking asking for a reduction of the fee, but a total removal.

“They tried to implement the directive in the College of Education, Warri but it was reversed when we took our protests there.

“I wrote to the Ozoro Polytechnic management but they rejected our letter. Students need palliatives and do not need to be told to pay N5, 000.”

He stated that students will only pay if staff are asked to pay times three of the N5, 000 they are asking students to pay.

Attempts by the Nigerian Police to quell the students fell on deaf ears as they have vowed to force the management reversing the decision.
