The Abia State government has refuted fresh claims suggesting that Governor Alex Otti has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reports circulating on social media alleged that Otti’s recent visit to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, shortly before Mbah’s defection to the APC, signalled a planned political realignment.

However, in a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, dismissed the report as false, describing it as a deliberate fabrication by political propagandists seeking to distract the governor from his reform agenda.

“Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve,” Kanu said.

He stressed that Otti’s priority remains the rebuilding of Abia State, restoring accountability, and ensuring that citizens receive the dividends of democracy promised during his campaign.

Kanu urged the public to disregard the rumour, noting that political mischief-makers were attempting to distort public perception ahead of the 2026 political season.

“The Governor’s focus is unshaken. Abians should treat the report as another round of cheap propaganda,” he added.

The statement reaffirmed that Governor Otti continues to enjoy strong support within the Labour Party’s structure, both at the state and national levels, dismissing all defection rumours as baseless.
