The woman identified as Miriam Azubuike was arrested in connection with a high-profile pension scam in Abia state. She together with other civil servants diverted funds meant for pension workers for their use.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the accused gave birth in a government-owned hospital.

Also, the government of Abia State who paid for her bills and all medical expenses of pre and post-delivery has taken the baby into its custody.
Miriam Azubuike is in detention because of her inability to foot the bail fee charged by the court.
Last year, Miriam and other accused persons were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Umuahia for various charges of fund misappropriation and fraudulent acts.
Though, she was pregnant then, she was still detained by the Abia Security agents.
However, her defendants and some close relations have appealed to the government to Grant her bail to take care of her baby, but the State government is yet to respond as her case is a criminal offense.
Currently, the baby is being taken care of by the government.
