Aggrieved Ijaw youths and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State have reiterated their determination to proceed with a protest at the Government House in Asaba on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
The announcement was made via a statement released on Monday by the Coalition of Delta Ijaw PDP Support Groups, signed by Comrade Austin Okporu, Chairman, and Comrade Jackson Agbor, Secretary.
The coalition, representing various Ijaw youth groups and PDP supporters, had initially declared their intention to protest on July 9, 2024.

They cited alleged abandonment and marginalization by the current administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the primary reasons for their planned demonstration.
“The Ijaw youths, who tirelessly worked for the emergence of incumbent government in Delta State have been consistently overlooked and marginalized by the Oborevwori administration,” the statement said.
“Our cries for inclusion and fair treatment have gone unheard, leaving us no choice but to take to the streets to demand justice and equity.
“This protest is not just a demonstration of our grievances but a call to action for the government to address the long-standing issues that have plagued the Ijaw communities.
“We urge all supporters and well-meaning citizens to join us in this peaceful protest to ensure our voices are heard.
The protest is a last resort as all attempts to get the government to listen to our demands have gone unattended to.
“We have been patient, but our concerns have not been addressed, leaving us with no other option but to take to the streets.”
The protest is set to commence at the Government House in Asaba, with participants demanding immediate attention to their concerns and a commitment from the state government to address the issues of neglect and marginalization.
The coalition has emphasized that their demonstration will be peaceful, but firm in its resolve.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has yet to respond publicly to the coalition’s allegations and the planned protest.
The situation remains tense as the date approaches, with many in the state closely monitoring developments.
