Suspension lift comes amid actress’ health challenge and leadership transition in AGN.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the suspension earlier imposed on Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar, bringing an end to a disciplinary action that began in October 2024.
Abubakar was suspended by the guild after she was accused of spreading false information about fellow actors, associates and patrons, including allegations of extramarital affairs involving influential individuals. The action later led to a legal dispute, with the actress filing a N3 billion lawsuit against the AGN.

Speaking at the inauguration of the guild’s new National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja, Emeka Rollas, outgoing national president of the AGN, announced the decision to reverse the suspension, stressing that he did not want to leave any member sanctioned at the end of his tenure.
Rollas explained that although the guild acted within its laws when it suspended Abubakar, considerations around her welfare influenced the final decision.
He said acting remains Abubakar’s primary source of livelihood and that it would be unfair to deny her the opportunity to earn a living indefinitely.
By the powers vested in him by the Board of Trustees and the entire Actors Guild of Nigeria, Rollas formally lifted the suspension, restoring Abubakar’s membership and participation in all AGN activities.

The AGN president also announced the lifting of suspensions placed on Christopher Igboji, Chidi Concord, Dan Ewerem and Jeff Okwute, all members of the Enugu State chapter of the guild.
The decision came just hours after Halima Abubakar appealed publicly for N25 million to support surgery for a brain tumour.
The event also marked a change in leadership, as Rollas, whose second and final tenure ended in December 2025, officially handed over to Abubakar Yakubu as the new national president of the AGN.
Commending the outgoing leadership, Chuks Chyke, chairman of the inauguration’s organising committee, said the Rollas-led administration strengthened the guild’s institutional growth, professional relevance and unity.
He described the transition as a significant milestone that reflects the maturity and stability of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
