Akwa Ibom Tribunal Receives 15 Petitions

Akwa Ibom Tribunal Receives 15 Petitions | Daily Report Nigeria

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Akwa Ibom has confirmed the recipient of 15 petitions on the elections of February 25.

It stated that the petitions it received as of Wednesday were filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Young Progressives Party (YPP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

According to the tribunal’s secretary, Ibrahim Usman in Oyo who spoke with reporters, 11 petitions were on the House of Representatives elections, while the remaining four were on the Senate elections.

Usman affirmed petitions on the senatorial elections were received from Akwa Ibom Northeast and Akwa Ibom South senatorial districts.

He added there was no petition was received from the Akwa Ibom Northwest district.

The secretary for the YPP the tribunal granted two motions filed by it seeking to inspect election materials.

He said:

“Similarly, an application by the APC in respect of the governorship election for the inspection of election materials was received and granted by the tribunal.”

Findings revealed the Electoral Act 2022 allows 21 days from the date of declaration of election results for petitions to be filed and 21 days for respondents to file their responses.

Meanwhile, the tribunal was yet to begin sitting for the petitions.
