The Anambra State Police command has confirmed the number of casualties, following the recent stampede in the state.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that a handful of people were rumoured to have died, during a food sharing event in Anambra State.

 

The event was said to have been sponsored by a prominent person in the town, with the aim of sharing food items to people during this festive season.

Tragedy however struck during the event, as a stampede occured.

According to the state commissioner of police, Nnaghe Obono, who visited the hospital where they victims were taken, a total of 22 people have been confirmed dead.

He also added a number of people also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Ndi Anambra, with a focus on crime prevention, responding to emergencies, protecting vulnerable populations, and fostering a sense of community security,” the statement concluded.
