The governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State has produced a third winner, Anemero Dereki.

Dekeri was declared winner of the Saturday February 17 exercise by Local Government Returning Officers.

Ojo Babatunde, spokesperson of the returning officers, announced Dekeri as winner of the primary election on Saturday night.

Babatunde said Dekeri, who is the lawmaker representing Etsako federal constituency in the House of Representatives, polled a total of 25,384 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dennis Idahosa, another house of representatives member who secured 14,127 votes.

The development adds more confusion to the exercise which earlier produced lawmaket Idahosa and Senator Monday Okpebholo as winners.

While the APC State Returning Officer Ogbuaja Stanley Uzoamaka declared Senator Okpebholo as winner, the Governor Hope Uzodimma led committee declared Idahosa to have emerged victorious from the exercise.

Meanwhile, Uzodimma declaration was dismissed by Uzoamaka, labeling the Imo governor’s announcement as only ceremonial.

On the other hand, the National Working Committee led by Abdullahi Ganduje has affirmed Idahosa as the authentic winner of the exercise, and candidate that will fly the party’s flag in the September 2024 governorship election.

On February 10, a total of 12 governorship hopefuls were screened and cleared to contest in the party’s primary election.
