The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has withdrawn from the local government election scheduled for Saturday, February 22.

This decision was made after a Court of Appeal judgment reinstated the APC’s chairmen and councillors who were previously sacked.

In a letter dated February 17, addressed to the Secretary of the State Independent Electoral Commission, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Alao Kamorudeen, stated that the party would not participate in the election due to the court’s decision.

The letter read: “Recall that the judgment of the Federal High Court in suit No. FHF/OS/CS/94/2022 was meritoriously nullified on February 10 by the Court of Appeal in Akure, in appeal No. CA/AK/270/2022 between APC and three others v. Peoples Democratic Party and others.”

The APC stated that the election has become “unnecessary, superfluous, and unlawful” due to the court’s decision.

The party’s withdrawal comes after a crisis erupted between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the court’s judgment, resulting in six deaths and scores of injuries.

Tambuwal Blasts APC, Attributes PDP Defections to ;Stomach Infrastructure

Former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has expressed disappointment and concern over the recent defections of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists shortly after the Northwest Zonal meeting of the PDP held at Hotel 17, Kaduna, on Saturday, Tambuwal attributed the defections to “stomach infrastructure” rather than the interest of the people.
