Arsenal Champions League Exit Ends Club World Cup Hopes, RB Salzburg Secures Spot

Arsenal

Arsenal hopes for a Club World Cup appearance were dashed on Wednesday following their Champions League exit. A 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena sealed their fate with a 3-2 aggregate loss.

RB Salzburg clinches the remaining spot in the expanded Club World Cup lineup.

Originally reserved for this year’s Champions League victors, the slot has been redistributed due to all semi-finalists already securing Club World Cup berths. Consequently, it’s awarded to the best-performing team in the competition over the past four years not already qualified, landing Salzburg the coveted spot.

Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, as Champions League winners from 2020/2021 to 2023/2024, will also compete. Meanwhile, Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain, Internazionale, FC Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, and Atletico secure their places based on coefficient rankings.

With 23 out of 32 teams confirmed, the remaining slots will be finalized by year’s end.
