The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has kicked against the reopening of schools by the Federal Government amidst COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

According to the academic union, Government must make resources available for schools so as to meet the proposed conditions laid down by the Federal Ministry of Education before considering reopening of schools.

While addressing newsmen today (Monday) in Ota, Ogun state, ASUU National President “Prof.Biodun Ogunyemi” urged the government to meet the conditions and recommendations spelt out by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and also ensure to provide the ideal environment before the purported plan of reopening schools.

While listing the conditions spelt out by the NCDC before reopening of schools, including the provision of materials for regular washing, isolation spaces, hand sanitizers, provision of face masks, and others. He noted that most government owned educational institutions cannot financially afford to meet the stipulated conditions.
