Armed bandits have attacked the divisional headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Zurmi town, which serves as the administrative center for the Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State.
During the attack, which occurred on Sunday evening, the bandits fatally shot seven individuals, including a police officer.
Babangida Zurmi, a native of the town, informed Channels Television that he had been unable to reach any of his relatives by 9:45 pm due to most of their phone numbers being turned off.

“As we speak now, I can’t get in touch with anybody in the town, their numbers are switched off. That means the bandits are still around. We need help from relevant authorities.”

Another source, who spoke with Channels Television, revealed that the bandits targeted the town as an act of revenge for the killing of two individuals by local vigilantes in the area.
The assailants not only burned down several shops but also razed the divisional police headquarters in Zurmi.
In a separate incident, a different bandit group operating in the Maradun Local Government Area (LGA) claimed four lives and abducted several others.
According to reports, the four victims lost their lives when the bandits opened fire on people who were clearing bushes along the road.
Yazid Abubakar, the spokesperson for the police in Zamfara State, confirmed the attack during a telephone conversation with Channels Television.
Abubakar mentioned that he was still gathering additional information regarding the assault on the Divisional headquarters of the police in Zurmi.
