Barcelona sporting director Deco has revealed that Marc Guiu turned down a contract offer from the club before making the move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

He explained that Barcelona had presented Guiu with a significant contract and project, but the young player chose to join the Premier League side instead.

“Chelsea paid the release clause and he left. He had an old contract with a €6 million release clause. We offered him an important contract and a clear project, but he made the decision to go another way,” Deco said, as quoted by Diario Sport.

He added, “We proposed a future for him as a forward at Barcelona, but he preferred Chelsea’s offer.”
