Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, known as Basketmouth, recently clarified why he teased Wizkid while praising the impact of Davido’s wedding on social media.
During Davido and Chioma’s wedding on June 25, Basketmouth expressed frustration about promoting his Canadian tour amidst all the attention on the wedding. He also noted that even Wizkid’s social media activities didn’t garner much notice due to the wedding’s spotlight.
His remarks about Wizkid didn’t go over well with the singer’s fans, who threatened to “cancel” him.

Addressing the controversy on Backstage Banter with Isi Ijewere during his Canadian tour stop in Toronto, Basketmouth explained that his comment about Wizkid was actually a deliberate “marketing technique.”
He clarified, “Wizkid is my guy… It was just a strategic move. I knew it would stir things up, get people talking, and it did exactly what I expected. It worked.”
