The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Timipre Sylva, has condemned former President Goodluck Jonathan over his comment on the outcome of the just-concluded gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.

Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had been declared winner of the last Saturday’s governorship election in the south-south state.

Reacting to the outcome of the poll, Jonathan said Diri’s victory would further improve the security situation in the state, adding that he would have relocated his mother to Abuja if Diri had lost his reelection bid.

Reacting, Syla, who is a former governor of the state described Jonathan’s comment on the election as unfortunate, wondering if the remark was truly made by the former president.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Sylva wrote: “Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted.

“Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus.”
