His nomination was proposed by Kunle Adegoke, SAN, and seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare, after which the Chairman of the APC primary election committee, Governor Monday Okpebholo, called for a voice vote.

“By the power conferred on me as chairman of the primary committee, I hereby declare Bola Oyebamiji, AMBO, as the candidate of our party,” Okpebholo announced.

The primary came amid earlier tension within the party following the disqualification of seven aspirants, including former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore.

The party’s screening panel said the affected aspirants failed to meet the requirement of securing nominations from party members across all local government areas of the state.

However, several aspirants rejected the decision, arguing that the screening process was unfair and influenced by interests outside Osun State.

As disagreements intensified, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC leader, invited some aspirants to Abuja for reconciliation talks. While some later accepted the outcome, Omisore remained outspoken, insisting the process was flawed.

Omisore accused unnamed individuals of misleading the president with incomplete information but maintained that Tinubu should not be blamed for decisions taken based on what he was told.

Oyebamiji, who hails from Ikire, previously served as Commissioner for Finance under former Governors Rauf Aregbesola and Gboyega Oyetola.

Before then, he was the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Omoluabi Holdings Limited, formerly known as OSICOL.

In 2023, he served as Special Adviser to former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, before his appointment as Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

With his emergence, attention now shifts to whether Oyebamiji can lead the APC back to victory in Osun State.
