Police operatives in Brazilian have rescued four men who were identified as illegal immigrants from Nigeria.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the four illegal immigrants were rescued off the coast of southeastern Brazil after thirteen days at sea in a boat from Nigeria.

Federal police disclosed that the men hid in a compartment above the rudder— a part of the boat that is sometimes submerged.

A statement concerning the rescue insisted that the men were discovered by the crew of a Liberian-flagged ship that left Lagos on June 27.

The statement partly read:

“The four were ‘healthy’ and ‘well-fed.’

“The men rescued claim to be Nigerians, but they did not carry any documents confirming their origin.”

The police statement added that the stowaways will remain in Brazilian custody until they return to their countries of origin.
