Legendary football icon, Ronaldo Nazário, renowned for his illustrious career with Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team, has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

Ronaldo’s Vision for Brazilian Football

The two-time FIFA World Cup champion announced his intention to run for CBF president in December 2024, aiming to restore the prestige of Brazilian football after years of scandals involving the federation’s leadership.

His campaign focused on transparency, dialogue, and unity to drive the sport’s evolution in Brazil.

Lack of Support from State Federations

Despite his ambitions, Ronaldo faced significant challenges in garnering support from the state federations.

In his initial discussions, 23 out of 27 federations declined to engage with him or consider his proposals, expressing satisfaction with the current leadership under Ednaldo Rodrigues.

Official Withdrawal Announcement

In light of the overwhelming support for Rodrigues and the reluctance to embrace change, Ronaldo officially retracted his candidacy.

He expressed disappointment over the lack of openness to reform and acknowledged the challenges of navigating institutional politics within Brazilian football.
