Delta State Anti Open Grazing Bill Passes First Reading

A bill for a law to provide for the regulation of open livestock grazing, rearing and marketing and to prohibit open grazing and related matters has passed a first reading on the floor of the Delta State House of Assembly.

The motion was moved by Hon Oghenerume Yakubu Ruben, member representing Ughelli South constituency and was seconded by Rt Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor, the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Speaker of the House, Sheriff Oborevwori has slated Wednesday July 14th, 2021 for the bill to be read a second time.

Recall that Southern governors had taken a consensus stand on the need to ban open grazing in the region.

Though the bill was greeted with condemnation from groups like Miyetti Allah, the Delta state legislature appears to be pulling the string from all ends to actualize the bill.
