A Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina defeated France 4-2 on penalties to win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

La Albiceleste threw out a 2 goal lead in the first as France rallied back to drag the game into extra time following two quick goals from Kylian Mbappe.

Messi then gave Argentina the lead in extra time before Mbappe scored from the spot to take the game to penalties.

Emiliano Romero proved the hero of the shootout, saving two spot kicks in succession, allowing Gonzalo Montiel to score the winning penalty for Argentina.
