The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday June 12, a public holiday as the country is set to mark the 2020 Democracy Day Celebration.

The declaration was made on behalf of the Federal Government by Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola, Minister of Interior on Monday.

Aregbesola congratulated Nigerians home and abroad over the establishment of democracy in the most populous black nation.

Minister Aregbesola particularly poured encomiums on the heroes of democracy whose dogged fights and sacrifices determined the implementation of a democratic rule in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by Georgina Ehuriah, permanent secretary to the Ministry of Interior, Aregbesola was quoted to have put a call to all Nigerians to continually embrace the selfless sacrifices they put in to make Nigeria a democratic state.

Aregbesola urged Nigerians to join hands with the present administration to pursue the absolute realization of ideals that are democracy driven, which our heroes past fought for with their lives.

The Minister assured Nigerians of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government’s commitment to tackling the Coronavirus pandemic while seeking their cooperation towards curtailing the further spread of the lethal virus.

The minister emphatically concluded by reiterating the need for all Nigerians to adhere to all safety measures recommended by relevant authorities.
