Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Monday suffered a 2-1 defeat to their South African counterparts, Bayana Bayana.

Both teams played out a scoreless first half, with striker Asisat Oshola going closest to opening the scoring.

The four-time African Women Player of the Year blasted a first time shot at the Bayana Bayana goalkeeper late in the first half.

However, the South Africans resumed with more tenacity after going the entire first half without a shot on target.

J. Seoposenwe opened the scoring on 61 minute, beating goalkeeper Oluehi from close range.

Magaia made it 2-0 almost immediately on the 63rd minute, blazing past Oluehi who came running out of her goalpost.

A late renaissance by the nine-time African champions saw midfielder Ajibade pull a goal back on the 92nd minute.

Still, the Nigerian girls were condemned to an opening day defeat at the ongoing Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
