Burna Boy Faces Defeat in Six Categories at 2024 NAACP Image Awards

Burna Boy’s string of disappointments at award ceremonies continued as he faced defeat in six categories at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards.

Despite his status as the self-proclaimed ‘African Giant,’ Burna Boy lost out in various categories. Usher clinched the title of Outstanding Male Artist of the Year, while Tems triumphed with “Me & U,” beating Burna Boy’s “City Boys” for Outstanding International Song.

Even Burna Boy’s collaboration with 21 Savage on “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” fell short, losing to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cobra” in the Outstanding Hip-hop/Rap Song category. Additionally, the track was surpassed by “Sensational” by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay for Best Duo/Group Collaboration (Contemporary).

In the album category, Burna Boy’s “I Told Them…” was outshined by Victoria Monét’s “Jaguar II” for Outstanding Album of the Year.

This recent setback adds to Burna Boy’s streak of award losses, including seven nominations at the 2023 BET Hip-hop Awards, four at the 2024 Grammys, and one at the 2024 Brit Awards.

Meanwhile, “Sensational” by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay not only secured the Best Duo/Group Collaboration (Contemporary) on the first night but also claimed the Outstanding Visual Album/Song award on the second night of the 55th Image Awards.
