The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced a nationwide enforcement exercise targeting all unregistered Point of Sale (PoS) operators beginning 1 January 2026.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commission warned that it had observed a growing number of PoS businesses operating without mandatory registration, a violation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Agent Banking Regulations.

According to the statement, no PoS operator will be permitted to function from next year without proper registration, and security agencies have been directed to enforce compliance and shut down defaulting operators.

The CAC also raised concerns about the role of some fintech companies allegedly enabling unregistered PoS operations, describing the trend as reckless and a threat to Nigeria’s financial system and citizens’ investments.
The statement added that illegal PoS terminals would be seized or shut down, and fintech institutions found encouraging non-compliant operators would be placed on a watchlist and reported to the CBN.
All operators were urged to regularise their status immediately, as compliance is mandatory and enforcement will be strict.
