CAF picks Super Eagles Player for drug test after South Africa win

Super Eagles defender, Semi Ajayi

Semi Ajayi, the Super Eagles defender, revealed that he missed head coach Jose Peseiro’s post-game team talk following Nigeria’s victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. This absence was due to being subjected to drug testing by Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials immediately after the match.

Ajayi, who put in an impressive performance during the match, highlighted that the game ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, with Nigeria ultimately triumphing via a penalty shootout against Bafana Bafana.

Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after the game, the Super Eagles defender, Ajayi explained the circumstances surrounding his absence from the team talk.

“I was not there [Peseiro’s team talk], I was getting tested so I missed everything,” he remarked.

He added, “Amazing. We came here to win, we are one step away from that now.

“As much as we need to enjoy today we need to fully focus on Sunday because we’ve got one last push to bring the Cup home to Nigeria.”
