The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has overturned Senegal’s victory in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, awarding Morocco a 3-0 win and the championship title.
The decision was delivered by the CAF Appeal Board, which ruled that Senegal forfeited the match after breaching tournament regulations during the final.

Morocco’s football federation had challenged an earlier decision by CAF’s disciplinary committee, arguing that Senegal violated key provisions of the AFCON rules by staging a walkout.
CAF upheld the appeal, citing Articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations, which mandate forfeiture and disqualification for any team that refuses to continue play or leaves the pitch without official approval.
The controversy erupted late in the match after a VAR review led to a penalty awarded to Morocco for a foul on Brahim Díaz. In protest, Senegal’s coach Pape Thiaw instructed his players to leave the pitch, halting the game for nearly 20 minutes.
Although Senegal later returned and secured a 1-0 win, CAF ruled that the temporary walkout constituted a violation of competition rules, leading to forfeiture.
The ruling nullifies Senegal’s victory and officially crowns Morocco as AFCON 2025 champions, marking one of the most dramatic decisions in the tournament’s history.
