Popular Nigerian content creator Carter Efe has made history by becoming the most followed African streamer on Twitch, following a viral livestream featuring Afrobeats superstar Davido that shattered viewership and engagement records across the continent.
The milestone was reached on Wednesday night after Carter Efe, whose real name is Efe Oderhohwo, hosted Davido on Twitch for a three-hour live session that drew massive attention from fans across multiple platforms.

The livestream peaked at over 80,000 concurrent viewers on Twitch, a new record for African creators on the platform. By the end of the broadcast, the stream had generated nearly five million total views, while Carter Efe gained more than 139,000 new followers in a single night.
Within hours, his Twitch account jumped from 300,000 followers to over 400,000, officially placing him at the top as Africa’s most followed Twitch streamer.
During the session, Davido praised Carter Efe’s work ethic and consistency, crediting his rise to persistence and resilience.
“Your consistency is the reason you’re here. Hard work always pays,” Davido said during the livestream.

The Afrobeats star also shared personal stories about loyalty, growth and friendship, freely engaging with fans throughout the broadcast. One of the night’s standout moments came when Davido recreated album artwork live with Carter Efe and boldly demanded a $1 million Twitch deal for the streamer.
In another major highlight, Davido helped Carter Efe secure a Martell brand ambassadorship while the livestream was still ongoing, sparking wild reactions from viewers.
The impact was immediate. Carter Efe reportedly gained over 28,000 new subscribers during the stream and briefly crossed 20,000 active subscribers, a rare achievement for African streamers on Twitch.
The broadcast extended beyond Twitch. Nigerian streamer Perkinsy rebroadcast the session on X (formerly Twitter), where it attracted about 458,000 viewers, while the original Twitch stream maintained nearly 88,500 live viewers.
Reacting to Davido’s appearance, social media commentator Jidex said: “I watched Carter live with Davido and was shocked. Davido was so free and real. If you don’t like Davido, you be wereeyy.”
As of the time of this report, Carter Efe’s Twitch account had crossed 407,000 followers, with thousands of new subscriptions still pouring in.
