The draw for the newly revamped Champions League will be held today at 5pm (UK time). The 2024/25 season marks a significant overhaul of the tournament, expanding the number of clubs from 32 to 36. One of the most notable changes is the shift from the traditional group stage format to a single league phase that includes all participating teams.
This new structure will increase the number of fixtures from 125 to 189. Additionally, the league phase will now extend to the end of January, instead of concluding in December as it did previously.
Under the new format of Champions League, each team will play a minimum of eight games against eight different opponents, split evenly between home and away matches. This is a change from the previous format, where teams played six matches against three opponents on a home-and-away basis.

The top eight teams in the league phase will automatically advance to the knockout stages. Teams that finish between ninth and 24th place will enter a two-legged play-off to compete for a spot in the last 16. Teams finishing in 25th to 36th place will be eliminated from all competitions.
